[Seven stands in the dining hall. She's alone and the kitchen is closed behind her.] Despite repeated requests for assistance in the kitchen, there are now officially no other members of staff for lunch-time.

As such, the kitchen will be closed during these times until I get the assistance I require to feed approximately one hundred individuals.

[She's serious. There's only fruit and blood (and possibly Quarian nutrients ) available with the usual tea and coffee stuff.]

Under the circumstances, there are still the breakfast and dinner shifts. Actions have consequences, so must inaction.

Has anyone tried recruiting the unpaired inmates? Maybe we can offer some incentives.

I have sent out multiple messages to encourage volunteers. As it stands, all shifts are straining. Porridge is only being prepared for breakfast and sandwiches otherwise. So far it has not prompted response.

As far as incentives, other than provided communal assistance, occupying one's time while onboard, not to mention adequate food, I'm not sure what I can offer.

Time in the CES, a night in the bar, maybe a special meal... We've got this untapped resource in unpaired inmates, might as well try to get them to volunteer since they don't have any wardens to force them.

The more I read of past entries on the ship's network, the more convinced I become that I'll have to make some public recommendations. My people have lived entire lives aboard ships with a great deal more self-sufficiency than this.

We haven't even so much as a working economy here, yet we're expected to behave as a single, inter-related community.

I don't know yet. [When your body is still new, and you're from a ship where you usually get your horrible looking food from a horrible tube, it's hard to tell.]

Why can't wardens help? [Genuine question.]

I would be interested to hear your recommendations, Admiral. On my previous vessel, we had holodeck privileges and replicator rations.

[She sighs.] I may enter in discussions with the Admiral to institute a similar system, if conditions do not improve.

If you feel hungry and believe that two meals are insufficient, you may seek me out.

The community occupations are to assist inmates in gaining a sense of place within the barge, providing them with an experience of contributing rather than destroying their society. It is also available to provide them with skills that can be transferred to wherever they may proceed after graduation. Finally, it passes time that might not be put to productive use. [AKA less stabbings.]

[She sighs.] I may reconsider my position after a month with no change, but it is a less than satisfactory solution.

Which is why I'm offering to volunteer, ma'am. My own inmate already has a job, one I can hardly ask him to leave.

You are not the one who needs to learn. As I have said below, this is a job for inmates. I will not insist that your inmate change jobs, if you feel that he is better served by remaining, then I will respect your judgement.

I may reconsider after a month or two, but for now, two meals a day will be sufficient for most. For special cases, I would be willing to speak with the individuals involved.

We have at least four replicators on board now; perhaps the more logical course of action would be to request an allocation of them to the kitchens and mess hall.
