[Annika isn't one to judge, mostly because she can't afford to. Money is thin on the ground and being practical, Annika doesn't really bother thinking too much about where and how the money comes in and out.

She just sings and takes requests.]

Officer Seth Gecko was decidedly off duty. He went to the clubs at least once a week, never talked on who he saw there, and was generally against Prohibition, seeing it as a giant waste of time and manpower. As long as things didn't get violent, he was always happy to look the other way. Plus he helped break up fights in the clubs before they drew official attention, which made him pretty popular.

He sat right near the stage, gazing up at the pretty singer as she took requests. He didn't have one himself; he just listened quietly, and glanced over at her stool to see what kind of drink she'd left behind, so he'd know what to send over during the break.

Annika was never seen with an alcoholic drink herself, even if she didn't judge those who did. It wasn't exactly good for the throat, particularly given that she can't afford to get at all drunk if she was going to survive the night.

She noticed her fan, of course, she's observant. She took her glass (water this time, soda others).

Seth nodded and stood up politely when she approached. He was a regular, though he'd never talked to her before. "Hi there. You've got a Hell of a voice. Can I get you a soda?" He had a direct way about him and was good at eye contact, but his smile was a bit shy.

She looked back at him, taking his measure, before speaking. "Thank you. Just water, please."

He waved at a waiter. "Two waters." At the man's look he simply folded his hands and raised his eyebrows. "Problem?"

"No sir." The waiter faded off through the crowd.

"I'm Seth. Nice to meet you."

She ignored the waiter completely, so it was hard to tell whether or not she had to endure such expressions. She nods once. "Annika. Charmed, of course."

"You local? You seem a little high class for Redemption. Course I'm a working guy, so what do I know?"

She shrugs and nods. "No place else to go."

"Not a bad place or anything. You do brighten it up." He smiles a little.

She raises her new glass of water to him. "Thank you. So, 'working guy', what is it you do know?"

He salutes with his own. "Welp." He never uses the words "cop", "police" or "PD" in watering holes, it makes people nervous. "I'm in security." She seems smart, he guesses she'll figure it out, and react however she's going to react.

She raises her eyebrows. Truthfully, the other side of the law sometimes uses similar wording, usually translating to 'beating people up for the boss'. "Security? Of people or assets?"

"Security of people. Assets are a lot less important to me." Which was basically a part of why he is here. Property, propriety, those things are all secondary to trying to make sure nobody gets killed.

Well, that certainly gave him away. "A view not many share." She smiles though, apparently sharing the view herself.

"I know. Well...actually that's not accurate. A lot of guys in my line of work see nothing wrong with, say, all of this. But until an actual vote comes up, there's nothing to do to change the law. So there's a lot of quiet looking-the-other-way. Me, I draw the line when people are actually getting hurt." He takes a swallow of water. "I guess you could call my being here a quiet form of protest."
